Farmington, the county seat of Davis County in Utah, had a population of more than 22,000 in 2014. The city was ranked 12th by Money magazine for “Best Places to Live” in the country. Farmington has almost 10 square miles of land area, with an elevation of 4,304 ft. The city lies in the east-central part of Davis County, with the Great Salt Lake to its west and the Wasatch Mountains to its east. The city experiences frequent snowfall during winter and cool mountain breezes on summer evenings.
On occasion, Farmington will experience an extraordinarily wet season in the winter. The above-normal precipitation will hasten the growth of tall grasses in the foothills that will be ready to burn during the hot days of summer. The Farmington Fire Department warns against the extreme fire danger brought about by unusually warm temperatures. Residents have been admonished against building fires that could easily spread and burn out of control.
In February 2016, a house fire broke out in a Farmington home. The fire started on the roof of the house but was immediately contained by firefighters from the South Davis Metro Fire District. Four fire engines and paramedic units from different agencies rushed to the scene. Fortunately, no one was hurt because the house was uninhabited at the time.
The fire was suspected to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring in the home’s attic. Due to the additions made to the home, the fire personnel found it difficult to reach the attic and had a hard time extinguishing the fire.
