Farr West, a city in Weber County, Utah, is a quiet western city that is rich in community life. The city’s early settlers engaged in agriculture. In 1898, they received a great boost with the introduction of the sugar beet industry. In 1923, more benefits came with the establishment of the Utah Packing Corporation that processed peas harvested on farms. The city currently has a population of more than 6,000.
Like other cities, Farr West has its share of misfortune. Fires and other disasters occur on occasion. In January of 2017, for example, a fire broke out after 2 p.m. in a warehouse in the city. Investigations showed that the fire started when a maintenance worker was welding metal plates and accidentally lit up some nearby plastic containers. The fire spread and flames damaged a small part of the building’s exterior. Fortunately, interior damage was minimal.
Weber Fire District crews put out the blaze immediately, extinguishing the flames before 3 p.m. of the same day. Fortunately, nobody was hurt during the incident.
